This image is by Linder Sterling. She is an artist whom creates work portraying a message focusing on objectification of woman in media and magazines.
- the way she does is is by collaging cut outs from magazines to create a strong feminist statement
- She looks at the images in men magazine which tend to contain, pages about; sports, cars, DIY and porn.
- She then looks at the content of female magazines, which includes, fashion, domestic work and image.
- then she cuts out images from the separate magazines and combines them.
- She started doing this in 1976, a time before the style press, where woman and men hobbies were very much separated.
- she creates the art to destroy the boundaries and stereotypes surrounding men and woman, by combining the two she is bringing the two sexes together.
- she also created art work for the band the buzzcocks,
- the content of her book, the secret public was very controversial due to the explicit images it contained. (1)
- This style Sterling uses to create art is very unique
- I will explore the use of collage over summer as a medium.
- I will look through magazines and newspapers article to create some illustrations relevant to my topic of in-equality.
- I may combine other media with the collage to create a more interesting outcome.
- I think the combination of collage and paint works nicely as it creates different surfaces and textures
